US State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagos said the only solution with Iran was a new agreement that would halt all "threats" it posed.
"The only solution is a new agreement that addresses all of Iran's threats," Ortagos said. These threats are summed up in the 12 demands that President Donald Trump and Foreign Secretary Mike Pompeo said Washington is ready to discuss, and Iran's leaders know how to contact us. "
The US spokeswoman said that Iran's recent threats to halt the implementation of its main commitments under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Action Plan are "a big step in the wrong direction".
"The international community must remain united in this direction and urge the Iranian regime to take responsibility for its threats to expand its nuclear program."
The United States withdrew in May 2018 from the nuclear deal between the major powers and Iran in 2015, which lifted sanctions against Tehran in exchange for limiting its nuclear program.
In response, Iran has announced a moratorium on some of its obligations under the nuclear deal, expressing its intention to raise the level of uranium enrichment unless the Europeans within 60 days to protect their commercial interests from US sanctions.
