Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn has warned of a surge in immigration to the EU if the situation worsens over Iran.
"If the situation worsens between Washington and Tehran, there is a danger that three million Afghans living in the country will leave Iran," the minister was quoted as saying.
According to him, many of them will not return to Afghanistan because of the security situation.
"There is a risk of a large wave of immigrants to Turkey and Europe," he said, adding that this would create big problems for Europe.
Last April, the German government adopted a series of laws to facilitate the deportation of migrants who were unable to obtain permanent residence rights in the country.
